When I was a kid and my parents finally sprung for cable, we received WPIX, which was an independent station out of New York City that mostly played syndicated programming. One of their regular programs was The Little Rascals. My brothers and I watched it all the time.
There's plenty to like about The Little Rascals, but what I like the most is its irreverent approach to childhood. Today everything seems to be politically correct and bogged down with educational and uplifting messages. The Little Rascals were misbehaving, mischievous kids. It was raw. It was real. And it was funny. Years later AMC started playing the old series, and I got to work on these pages. This is a work-in-progress, however, as AMC stopped airing the show before I could complete this content, and I have never been able to locate any of the later "Our Gang" episodes. If you have any information on where or how to view these (besides video rental), please email me. |
