The Rec Room

One of my favorite hobbies is independent, low-budget video production. I made two 8mm movies in high school, and have always wanted to be a filmmaker. I began producing videos for public access cable in 1989. In 1992 Primavera won a statewide award and Craftspeople of South Lincolnwon a Nashoba Cable award.

In 1994 and 1995 I produced two gay-themed melodramas - a 19 minute episode of a projected soap opera called Teele Square: The Birthday Party, and a 74 minute drama entitled Trail Mix.

Arguably my masterworks, Fun With Puppets and Debbie Makes a Puppet, were both made in collaboration with my Harvard College classmate, Robert Garrett. A DVD including both videos was a finalist for the American Library Association’s list of Most Notable Children’s Videos of 1999. The DVD is available for purchase, for $25, plus $3 postage and handling. (Schools and libraries pay more).  If you want the DVD, go to this link or send your check to:

Another video I'm proud of is Potter, a documentary showing pottery being thrown, glazed and fired.  It features my old friend James Guggina.

More recently, I shot a couple of panel discussions which you can see as streaming video: GLAD Forum on Civil Rights and Marriage Equality and the Call to Duty Tour at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government.

Current projects include a video about a local artist, a mystical short subject about finding a needle in a haystack and a gay version of Romeo and Juliet. If you have a script you would like to see produced please send it along!

Since 1990 I have greatly enjoyed hiking, backpacking, biking, skiing and snowshoeing with Chiltern Mountain Club.  And click on the suitcase to see some places I've been.
