Karl,

Yes, that is always a possibility that the female isn't a Kirki.  How
could one really know just by looking at it?  Anyhow, I'm going to try
fattening them up even more (than they currently are) and see if that
will help.  Maybe nothing will.

It just is really baffling since it is only this pair that I can't get
eggs from.  It is quite a disappointing thing, as the male is very
striking with almost neon orange fins.  They certainly go through the
ritual, but sifting through peat reveals no eggs.  I'll incubate the
peat anyhow (in case they are just so small that I never spot them), but
I think this case is an exercise in futility.
