March 2010

No, it is not a real ad, but if Tiger keeps losing sponsors, maybe it will be.

Decent week, but the small caps and the Nasdaq 100 have outperformed everything else, including my portfolio. It is generally the case that when the market has a good move, those two areas do the best. Meanwhile, I suffered an injury to my right eye - scratched cornea. Very painful, and I can hardly see out of that eye. It will get better, or so the doctor assures me. Seeing her again tomorrow. With one eye patched over, I lose depth perception, and have been rather clumsy doing things like putting the top on a jar, for example. Also, it is difficult to look at a chart and trade with impaired vision.

The cartoon says it all. We cannot be a great nation with so many people overweight, particularly children, and consequently we are now getting type 2 diabetes in children. One day at Target, I saw a woman so fat she could hardly walk. She was pushing a shopping cart holding several cases of Coca-Cola and nothing else.
Actually, we tend to be a nation of extremes. When I go to the gym I see people who are in excellent shape, and behaving responsibly. Then, if I go to the Mall, or just walk around the downtown area, I see so many people who are just flat irresponsible in their diet and exercise. Speaking of the gym, my eye is better, and I should be able to drive there in a day or so.
Want to see some guys who are in shape? Hockey Camp in the summer - no ice, just conditioning. Develops coordination, endurance, and strength. As I say, a nation of extremes. Maybe I should start a scholarship to send fat kids to hockey camp.

Americans are crazy. Consider the following results from a Harris poll, which in addition showed that 14% of Americans and 24% of Republicans think that Obama is the Antichrist:
Here's the percentage breakdown of respondents' views of President Obama:
How did we get to be a nation of nut-cases? Maybe all the fat goes to the brain. In any case, further evidence of the decline of this country.
Market was crazy today. That Trichet guy should just shut up.
Earlier, it appeared that the small caps were leading things. However, beneath the averages there has been a lot of volatility in individual stocks, particularly the small caps. I have had the unfortunate luck to be in the worst ones this month. Sudden drops of 10-20% have not been uncommon. I am working on this - setting stops closer. But so far this has not been a good month.

Not a good month, although I made a little money. While the indices did well, a lot of the stocks I bought developed the sudden sinking syndrome, and just dropped for no reason at all. I do not know what to do about that.
