Well, after some analysis, it appears that my picks outside the mechanical system are the problem.  So much for using my own judgment.  I will gradually get out of those not in the mechanical system and increase the initial investment in those in the system.  But I will still hold BMD, which I believe is a good long-term investment.

Delay Will Not Run for Election

Goodby to that bigoted, beady-eyed jerk.  Conservatives tend to be mean and obnoxious, while liberals tend to be stupid.  The voters do not have good choices in many cases. But they are all greedy pigs, bought easily by a golfing trip to Scotland or something.  Do normal people sell out for a trip to Scotland?  Not exactly.

Well, I now have all my positions in those things that the FastBreak system holds.  Things were going pretty well until yesterday.  Anybody who claims the market is rational is crazy.  First some were worried about an inverted yield curve.  Suddenly the yield curve un-inverts because interest rates on the long term bonds go up.  So no more inverted yield curve.  And how did people think that yield curve would un-invert?  Were short rates, closely controlled by the Fed, going to go down?  Hardly.  Now people panic because the long-term interest rates are going up.  The point is that there is always something to cause worry and panic.  Oh, yes, there was the jobs report.  Too many people working is a bad thing.  Oh yes, I almost forgot.  People are worried about inflation because the price of gold has been going up (there are probably other reasons for that than inflation, which is minimal).  So yesterday all the gold mining stocks went down.  None of this computes.

Excellent day.  All it took was a little encouragement from the Fed.  I sold BMD, my only non-system holding.  It was down today, and while I had vowed to hold it for at least a year, I just do not have the patience.

The last few days have been very volatile, and confusing.  I have a few trades to make tomorrow.  No telling what sort of a month this will be.

Metal stocks tank today.  I still have large profits in the individual stocks, but this volatility is getting to me.

April 28, 2006

I made back about half what I lost yesterday.  Suddenly people want the metals again.  But the rest of the market was not good.  So yesterday the indices were up and my portfolio down.  Today the reverse.  Is a puzzlement.

Next month I should resume posting the closed positions.
