Fund List
August 2, 2004
Since I wrote this page, it has become nearly impossible to trade mutual funds. The objections to market timing have been expanded in a way that allows a fund to ban a person if he ever sells. While some funds may be OK to trade, I simply do not think it is worth the risk. The fact is, of course, that unless you can sell something, you do not really own it.
Of course, Rydex, Potomac, and ProFunds can be traded. In addition, there are the ETFs.
Anyway, this is what I wrote about a year ago:
The following funds are, so far as I know, no-load and reasonable (30-60 days) redemption fee funds. They are all available at Brown & Co. All of the Rydex, Potomac, and ProFunds are available as well. The list here only includes actively managed funds; not index or index type funds. I believe that this information is good, however in some cases, particularly with Scudder funds, the information is very hard to find, and it may be best to avoid Scudder funds for that reason. Be sure to check the prospectus before buying any fund - things can change, and there is sometimes bad information on certain websites.

Here is a list of fund families available at Brown. Unfortunately, the links on that page do not work unless you have a Brown account, so this list of families is the best I can do.
