A Neapolitan mastiff named "Tia" has set a new world record by giving birth to a litter of 24 puppies.

Despite being scanned by a local veterinarian, the family had only expected Tia to birth 10 puppies.

But when Tia grew so big that she couldn't move, a veterinarian decided an emergency Caesarian section was vital. Two hours, later she gave birth to the record litter.

The now 7-week-old puppies are expected to fetch $1,000 each when they are sold. All but three of the puppies are up for sale.

The current record litter stands at 23, but officials from the Guinness Book of World Records are working to give Tia the new title.
